I'm not an alarmist — I'm a pragmatist. Roughly two-thirds of Google searches now end without a click to any website (Search Engine Land, 2026), and when an AI Overview appears, clicks to the top result drop by more than half (Ahrefs, 2025). The answer layer is eating the click layer. You don't have to like it. You just have to be in it.
